SAIWA SWAMP NATIONAL PARK
The smallest park in Kenya with an area of 2km2 and created in 1974. Popular for its rare semi-aquatic antelope “Sitatunga” The only of its kind in Kenya. Also host Brazza monkey and several birdlife.
RUMA NATIONAL PARK
Previously this park was called Lambule valley national reserve.Traversed by labue river, forming thick riverline forest. Highlands and to the west is irregular high hills and to East is Kanyamwa fault escarpment. Has stable climate for being close to Lake Victoria. Also protect Rothschild’s Giraffe and rare Roan antelope as well as Jackson Heart beast.
KAKAMEGA FOREST NATIONAL PARK
The only western tropical rain forest in Kenya. Resembles West African forest popular to scientist and ornithologists. Has birds i.e. Great Blue Turaco, Grey parrot, Blue-headed Bee-eater etc.
MT. ELGON NATIONAL PARK
It’s a volcanic mountain with 4300m of attitude covered by savannah woodland, mountain forest and alpine moorlands popular for the cave elephants, black and white Columbus monkeys, Golden mole one can hire/ walk on Mt moorland.
KISUMU TOWN
The principal port of Lake Victoria (before known as St, Florence port). It’s the 3rd big city after Nairobi and Mombasa. Has an airport, Railway station and interboat services. Lake Victoria is the 2nd fresh water lake in world after Lake Superior of Canada / USA. Also occupies an area of 63000km2 and has source of River Nile.
