LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Popularly known as the ornithological paradise of flamingos, greater pelicans, kingfishers, comorants, crebes, etc. Has over 4 millions of flamingoes. It’s the black and white rhino sanctuary, the Rothschild giraffe. Also hosts, buffalo, lion leopard, waterbucks, gazelles etc. Has an area of 200km2 with the alkaline lake at centre bordered by grass savannah and yellow barked acacias and Euphorbia forest trees.
LAKE NAIVASHA NATIONAL PARK
Lake Naivasha is one of the fresh lake with a lot of aquatic birds accessible with a boat i.e. fish eagle, lily-trotters, Red-Knobbed coots, migrant Harriers i.e. Palied, Montagu and Eurasian marsh Harrier which sail over reed beds as they hunts the little tree-frogs (Hyperolius) It’s the most beautiful of Kenya’s Rift Valley Lakes with feathery leaded papyrus, lagoons and channels, blue water lilies and crescent island wildlife Sanctuary.
HELL’S GATE NATIONAL PARK
The only park that offers cycling, rock climbing and walking safari to geysers and steam jets near the geothermal power plant (second source of Kenyan electricity). Has the birds i.e. verreaux’s eagles, colonies of Ruppell’s vulture, and rare barded/ lammergeyers vulture.
LAKE BOGORIA NATIONAL PARK
Famous for its hot geysers, discovered by the Scottish explorer Joseph Thomson in 1883. It’s 64 km (40 miles) from Nakuru. Lake covers 30km2 and depth of 9m. Also the home of rare greater kudu.
LAKE BARINGO
This fresh lake in Kenya. It’s the ornithological paradise discovered by J.W. Gregory in 1893. Has the Gibraltar island the nesting colony of Gollath Herons and to west lake are Verreaux’s eagle, rare Bristle- crowned starling and Hemprich’s Hornbell into the acacia woodland find Grey-headed silverbills west Nile Red Bishop, Northern Masked weaver etc. Boat ride excursion is available as you watch Nile crocodiles and hippocampus.
